SOWEGANS Soccer Club continues to make progress as they work toward the club’s Inaugural Gulf Coast Premier League season beginning in May of 2023. They’ve already announced Westover Field as their home field, Ricky Zambrano as their first Head Coach, and now all attention has turned toward selecting the right players for SSC’s inaugural roster.
On December 17th, SSC had the opportunity to evaluate nearly 50 players who attended
their inaugural tryout.
Head Coach Ricky Zambrano was pleased with the turnout: “The inaugural tryout for our club was highly successful. Not only did we have nearly 50 players participate, we were able to evaluate players that can form part of the roster this season and in the years to come.”
SOWEGANS are searching for players not only who are talented, but also who will represent the club and Southwest GA well and help grow the sport.
Josh Duckworth, the club’s President, wants the club’s roster to be a good representation of the soccer community in SOWEGA: “We are open to all interested players, but obviously want the best players in SWGA to play for us. Whether they 1) play high school or collegiate soccer here, 2) are from here but playing in college elsewhere, 3) or live in the area looking for top level amateur soccer, we want to show men’s amateur soccer throughout the country that SWGA has a lot to talent.”
While SOWEGANS has already had its first tryout, Coach Zambrano says there are still opportunities to be evaluated by the club: “In the months to come we will continue to evaluate players through both tryout events and in alternative fashions. We encourage interested players to follow our social media to find out about these events or to reach out to us for more information.”

The club hopes to have the roster completed by April.
