SOWEGANS Soccer club announce their home for their inaugural 2023 season. They will play at the Westover Field behind Westover High School for all of their home games.
Mr. Jones, Westover’s athletic director, welcomes the partnership with SOWEGANS SC and is “pleased to serve as a host site for the SOWEGANS Soccer Club's games this upcoming season. It is our wish that the local community will come out and support the SOWEGANS Soccer Club.”
Ryan Ash, Co-Director of Player Operations, views this as more than just a place to play, but as part of SSC’s goal to be part of the community: "While we continue to grow and develop SOWEGANS SC, today's stadium announcement serves as a reminder that we must strive to keep our club rooted in our local community. By partnering with Westover High School we are recognizing that there is infrastructure here in Southwest Georgia that will carry this club on to long-term success. We hope to continue this partnership across more channels as we recruit and develop players from this very same community." The stadium seats 1000 and the
club plans to add some premium seating at field level.
Josh Duckworth, founder and president of SSC, says that the club’s goal is to make games exciting so that people can’t wait to come to the next one. “It’s a perfect home for our club! Great, central location in our city and an easy location for people to come in from all over southwest GA. Our Saturday night home games will be fun for everyone, whether you are a soccer fan or not.”
Having fun game-day experiences at Westover Field is a top priority, but putting a competitive team on the field is the club’s focus right now. Duckworth says they are already working hard to find the best players in southwest Georgia to wear the green and blue: “There’s some tough competition in our league, so having a great home field advantage is vital to compete for a title. We hope to attract the best players in southwest GA to show soccer around the southeast the talent that we have in SWGA.”
SOWEGANS will compete in the Gulf Coast Premier League, taking on clubs in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. Gaffa FC out of Jackson, MS are the defending champs. SOWEGANS joins Florida Roots out of Panama City as the newest clubs to join the league. The season begins early May and runs through July.
